History

I live at Mooloolaba and am a former higher education administrator who has worked for many years to assist disadvantaged groups to access and successfully complete higher education. I have a keen understanding of the challenges faced by families living in regional areas in accessing education and employment as I grew up in regional South Australia. I attended the local state primary and secondary schools and was obliged to leave home in order to complete a Bachelor of Arts and Diploma of Education. I have an extensive employment history as; a high school teacher, an industrial officer in an education union, a higher education equal opportunity officer and as a university senior manager. More recently I am pursuing my interest in the creative arts and local community issues.

Objectives

If elected I will push for planning and development on the Sunshine Coast which properly factors in floodplain mapping, probable climate change impacts and renewable energy development and use. I will work hard for the development of environmentally sustainable water harvesting and water reuse technologies in new urban developments; a health hub in Maroochydore and upgrade of local schools; ensuring community views are strongly put to government on initiatives such as Coast Connect; and effective liaison between the state and local government to fast-track much needed infrastructure. I am concerned about development proposals such as 'Twin Waters West' and the Horton Park Golf Course when the SEQ Regional Plan clearly advocates against development on flood plains. I will represent the communities views to the state government to ensure that the Sunshine Coast is not destroyed by unsymathetic change.

Three People I'd like to have to Dinner

Gore Vidal, a progressive US historical writer of wit and wisdom. Michael Moore for his outrageous, funny and apt criticisms of the US neo-conservatives (especially George Dubya Bush). Germaine Greer for her feisty and original opinions and the influence she had on me when I was younger.

The Last Book I Read was...

'World History: A New Perspective' Clive Ponting

The Last Music I Bought or
Listened to was...

The Audreys 'Between Last Night and Us'

My Interests
(outside of this election)

My passions are politics and oil painting. I am a former avid horse owner and rider. I read everything I can about national and international affairs and followed the recent USA elections avidly including joining the Obama campaign.
