Candidate Profile Ian Haycroft

My History

My professional experience provides me with the skills and experience that will be needed at the Regional Level.

I have extensive management experience including 20 years working in China and the United States in both the corporate world and for international aid organisations and I also run my own small business in Noosaville.

I have an understanding of Council and the needs of the local community, gained from working in community development with Noosa Council where I have helped to develop and implement policy and programs for community organisations across the Shire.

I am articulate, passionate, empathetic and a good communicator. I have excellent public speaking, negotiation and mediation skills which I believe all position me well to represent the people and diverse communities of Division 12.

My family and I live, play and work in these communities and as a result, I have a strong desire to represent these communities and ensure they have a Regional Voice and are not overlooked, forgotten or destroyed in the vastness of the Sunshine Coast Regional Council.

My commitment to the area is demonstrated by my involvement in community events and programs and extensive volunteer work including the following official positions:

  • Member of the Noosa Council Equitable Access Reference Group
  • Community Board Member of the Cooroy Rag
  • Past Chair and current member of the Cooroy Lower Mill Site Board
  • Past President and current member of the Cooroy Chamber of Commerce.

My Objectives

I will fight to ensure:

• Unwanted development is kept out. Rates and charges are frozen in the first year and programs to keep rates steady or reduced are put in place.

• Local people have a real say and we are not lost and forgotten in the Super Council.

• We are kept safe and secure. The safety, convenience and frequency of public transport is improved dramatically.

• Community, sport and recreation grants are at least maintained and increased wherever possible.

• Business and community partnerships are promoted.

• The Sunshine Coast becomes a model of sustainability and alternative technologies for the world.
