Candidate Profile Lew Brennan

My History

I was first elected to the Noosa Council in 1997.

I am not party political but rather came from a community background with extensive involvement in organisations in the Noosa Hinterland for the last 30 years.

I have been passionately involved in youth issues (Noosa Youth Services, sporting clubs, United Synergies etc);

Education... established the first university in Noosa... the Noosa Hub of Central Queensland University, and also the Education and Training Reforms for the Future Board.

Environment... 8 years on Noosa Landcare, founding member of Rural Futures Network.

Economy... initiated debate leading to the restructure of Noosa Council, developing a formal focus on business and economic development, established the first economic development unit at Noosa Council, founding vice chairman of Bendigo Community Bank, founding chairman of NISER and the Sunshine Coast National Stock Exchange.

My Objectives

First objective is to work to create a new vision for the Sunshine Coast Council and its community, taking advantage of any benefits of the scale of the region while recognising the need to protect the sub regional cultures and village amenity.

There has to be a real focus on the development of good governance principles in the new council supported by good systems and practices so as to best represent our community going forward.

From that solid base we can commit to the development of the most outstanding region in Australia.
