2009 State Election fast facts
  • Enrolment deadline: 5pm on Saturday 28th February 2009
  • Election day: Saturday 21st March 2009
  • Voting is compulsory
  • On election day, polling booths will be arranged at convenient locations throughout Queensland. Polling booth locations will be available following close of rolls. Polling booths will be open from 8am to 6pm.
  • If you can't make it to a polling booth on election day, other options such as postal voting and pre-poll voting are available.
  • Voting instructions are at the top of your ballot paper.

Candidate Profile Maureen Beer

My History

I have the life skills and qualifications to make a difference.

I was in the first intake at the Unversity of the Sunshine Coast and completed my MBA in 2000.

I am a member of the Australian Institute of Management. I understand the needs of business people having owned and managed small businesses on the Sunshine Coast for 25 years.

I have brought up two children on the Sunshine Coast and understand the needs for families on the Sunshine Coast.

I am a community worker, and understand the needs of the community.

I believe in a local consultative process that is representative of the community.

I believe in listening to the results of the process.

I believe in submitting the results of the process to council to ensure that your voice is heard.  

My Objectives

Improving sporting facilities, and public areas.

Efficiencies and forward planning within local government that will streamline and fast track applications and public requests.

I will encourage the growth in residential aged care in the region so that more hospital beds will be available.

I will build partnerships with the University of the Sunshine Coast, and state and federal governments.

I will be guided by the expert knowledge of council employees.

I believe in open transparent proactive local government.

I will seek discounted rates for pensioners and seniors.

I will work towards keeping the airport and museum where they are - and alternative is to start the Caloundra Downs 2 project now.

I will support innovations that bring wealth, improved lifestyle and better facilities to our community.

I will support energy efficient projects that have the potential to help the Sunshine Coast meet the challenge of climate change by providing a clean green environment.

I will support the acquisition of property that is on the market rather than resume existing property that is not for sale.
