Candidate Profile Ron Strong

My History

Experience. I am presently a member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.

My commitment to the community is that I presently serve on several Boards of Community Not for Profit Companies. I am the Chairman of 2 of the Boards and Vice Chair of another.

On being elected and through succession planning I will remove myself from the several Boards to devote my full attention to Council responsibilities but will remain as an advisor for the Boards and other organisations.

As a Senior Manager with the Queensland Police Service I was a Director of Eduction & Training for Commissioned Officers. From 1997 to 2000 I was an Inspector and District Officer/Disaster District Coordinator for the Sunshine Coast District. This is the same area which is to be the Sunshine Coast Regional Council responsibility.

This has provided me with a valuable understanding of the Region both Economic and Environmental. I have an extensive knowledge of Local, State and Federal Governments having worked closely with all levels in my service to the Community of Queensland.

My Objectives

I will provide:

• Ethical and honest communication/consultation and will be committed to open council meetings other than meetings which relate to tenders in progress or related to council staff issues which are covered by Law.

• Strong Councillor representation to protect our unique environment.

• Strategic Leadership in Planning and Financial management.

• Support to Community organisations.

• Enhanced public safety, Regional Council Counter Disaster Planning and Management.

• Affordable housing for the employees that will be needed to fill employment vacancies in the Sunshine Coast Region. This will need Community Consultation and Public Private Partnership through all levels of Government. This has become an urgent issue and it should not solely rely on INFILL.

• Ensuring council fees/rates do not outstrip the financial ability of residents of the Region.

• Lobbying of State and Federal Governments for infrastructure and Financial needs to meet the sustainable growth of the Region.

• Protection for our Unique Environment for which we all have either remained here all our lives or chosen to move here to enjoy.
