  • Enrolment deadline: 5pm on Saturday 28th February 2009
  • Election day: Saturday 21st March 2009
  • Voting is compulsory
  • On election day, polling booths will be arranged at convenient locations throughout Queensland. Polling booth locations will be available following close of rolls. Polling booths will be open from 8am to 6pm.
  • If you can't make it to a polling booth on election day, other options such as postal voting and pre-poll voting are available.
  • Voting instructions are at the top of your ballot paper.

Candidate Profile Danny McGuire

My History

I have been heavily involved in community activities and sporting pursuits on the Sunshine Coast for 34 years. 

I came here in 1974 as a tender 21 year old high school teacher at Caloundra State High and moved into the technology business in 1990. 

I have been a successful partner and manager of two technology firms.

I have been married for 32 of those years and have raised 4 children in this area with all children attending local schools.

I have managed Queensland based computer companies and have been chairman and president of local school bodies.

Developing our youth has been a major driving force of my community activities.

Currently I am chairman of Wide Bay rugby league and I also sit on the board of the Queensland Rugby League as a director. 
 

My Objectives

Rates. Working within budgets and providing affordable and value added rates. Identifying needs and concerns of rate payers Providing pensioner rate recognition

Environment and Local. Protecting the Currimundi Lake catchments and surrounds. Protecting our fore shores and sand dunes Improving our garbage recycling programs Consulting with the community in order to improve our public facilities such as gardens, parks and bus shelters. Supporting local Neighborhood Watch and environmental care groups. Providing and maintaining walking tracks and pathways for all to enjoy our wonderful environment. Protecting and enhancing lifestyles

Transport Supporting efforts to provide better public transport. Supporting efforts to improve traffic management.

Youth. Developing our youth programs and working closely with sporting and cultural organisations to try and reduce costs for children to participate in these activities. Working closely with the schools and the State Government to provide joint facilities for all ages Striving for increased job opportunities.

Regional. Encouraging “Buy Local” campaigns particularly within the new council for all goods and services in the region.

Working in a progressive and meaningful relationship with all councilors on the new regional council. Ensuring infrastructure changes keep pace with a managed growth plan.

Managing water infrastructure – getting what is rightfully ours.

Protecting our tourist assets.

Remaining politically independent and committed to protecting interests of not only Division 3, but for all of the Sunshine Coast.
