Candidate Profile Dick Newman

My History

I've had a great first term in Caloundra Council. I've worked out the 'system' which is the only way to deliver good things to the community.

Doesn't matter whether it's town planning or fixing a pothole, there is a system in place that will work if it is used correctly.

I've worked out how to ensure residents in my Division get better than a dollar return for every dollar they pay in rates.

I've made the Council more open so residents can get any information they need.

I've worked co-operatively with my fellow Councillors to get the best results I can.

I've been a strong supporter of not allowing more housing until we get the roads and other infrastructure we need.

My Objectives

It's not about my objectives, it's about your objectives.

It will be critical that the Councillors bring in a good first budget to set the financial scene for the future.

Our next biggest task will be a review of all the planning schemes in 2009. Caloundra and Noosa have good strong schemes that can benefit the Maroochy residents.

Individual towns like Montville can re-affirm their commitment to their existing town plan while towns like Maleny can make amendments to give strength against unwanted development.

But you can be sure that individual communities will come through with clear messages about what they want me to deliver.
