Candidate Profile Cate Molloy

My History

I am the immediate past State Member for Noosa (6 years). Before that I spent 25 years nursing.

I have three beautiful daughters, one still at school. I've lived and worked in several states of Australia and overseas.

I recently graduated from the University of the Sunshine Coast, after years of studying part–time, with a BA (Politics and Communications).

I'm married to Dr. Ivan Molloy, Senior lecturer in Politics and International Relations at the University of the Sunshine Coast.

I've lived on the Sunshine Coast for 12 years, and have been involved in community groups for the past 10 . In recent years, as a nipper mum, I took on my greatest fear - the ocean, and learnt to swim and did my Bronze Certificate in Surf Life Saving. I then spent eight years as a volunteer Surf Life Saver.

For the last two years I have been a student of Karate Budokan which is a family pursuit.

In my work over the years, I have been involved in many community environmental campaigns with great success including saving Emu Mountain, and the community’s efforts to put a large land parcel in Coolum ""D Bird"" into the national park estate, at Coolum.

As the State member for Noosa, I ensured Stage 3 of Eenie Creek Road remained a bridge as in the original design and not a cheaper last minute option, which would have blocked off all faunal movement creating enormous environmental problems.

Every year I volunteer to collect rubbish and debris from our local beaches on a regular basis and encourages others to do the same.

My achievements for the Coast so far:-

  • SAVED EMU MOUNTAIN
  • SAVED TEWANTIN FIRE STATION
  • NEW FIRE TRUCK FOR NOOSA
  • EXTRA POLICE AND NEW POLICE STATIONS – COOLUM, TEWANTIN AND EUMUNDI
  • NEW TAFE FOR COAST
  • FUNDING FOR THE NOOSA “J” (OVER $1 MILLION)
  • SECURING NOOSA RIVER PLAN
  • A SWIMMING POOL FOR EUMUNDI
  • FUNDING FOR EENI CREEK ROAD NETWORK
  • EXTRA FUNDING FOR NOOSA HOSPITAL
  • FUNDING APPROVAL FOR AFL NOOSAVILLE

I'M EXPERIENCED AND PROVEN - A FIGHTER NOT A QUITTER!

My Objectives

MY VISION FOR THE SUNSHINE COAST IS:

• ICONIC LEGISLATION BE ENACTED TO PROTECT THE WHOLE COAST’S ENVIRONMENTAL, SOCIAL, CULTURAL AND ECONOMIC HERITAGE, NOT JUST PRIVILEGED POCKETS

• SUCH LEGISLATION BE DRAFTED BY OUR SUPER COUNCIL AND EXPERTS – NOT THE QLD STATE

• THAT WE CANNOT LOOK BACKWARDS – BUT FORWARDS TO A UNITED COAST WHERE PEOPLE OF THE FORMER THREE SHIRES VALUE AND SUPPORT EACH OTHER – AND TOGETHER BUILD THE STRONGEST, BEST AND MOST ENVIRONMENTALLY AND ECONOMICALLY SUSTAINABLE SUPER COMMUNITY IN THE COUNTRY.

MY POLICIES. I SHALL:

• work with sporting and recreational groups to achieve long term goals for the future;

• work with business groups to secure their share of the market in the face of ever increasing unfair competition;

• work to ensure our agricultural land is not devoured by rampant development;

• help the surrounding rural sector secure its market base;

• oppose the Kulangoor landfill proposal, protect our environment by developing sustainable population growth targets achieved by the Strategic Town Plan;

• use the "'Transition Town ' strategies”, to increase renewable energy generation and reduce green house gas emissions;

• work to secure an electronic bus transport system for the region; save the Sunshine Coast from mindless “Mc Donaldisation”;

• keep the Coast clean, green and energy efficient and oppose environmentally unsustainable development;

• work to address the affordable housing crisis

ABOVE ALL, I will ensure the Super Council hears the Voice of Division 9.
